Making connections.
Causal Map Ltd is a social research software company based in Bath, UK. We built Causal Map to make causal analysis accessible to everyone: evaluators, researchers, and non-specialists who work with qualitative data.
Steve Powell has been working with Fiona Remnant and James Copestake from Bath Social and Development Research Ltd since 2019 to bring Causal Map to life. In summer 2020 they set up Causal Map Ltd to further develop and promote the app.

Co-founder and Director
Steve has led research and evaluation projects in many countries over 25 years. He gained his PhD in psychology researching post-traumatic stress after the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. His research and evaluation work inspired him to co-found Causal Map Ltd, seeking a better way to collect and synthesise people's ideas about what influences what.

Co-founder and Director
Fiona is a communications and research professional with a special interest in the practical application of academic research in international development. She co-authored the Qualitative Impact Protocol (QuIP) at the University of Bath and co-founded Bath Social and Development Research Ltd.
Gabriele Caldas LinkedIn
Outreach Coordinator
Gabriele focuses on outreach, sales, educational materials, and user support. Her background includes an MBA in Project Management and an MSc in International Development, with a passion for social justice and qualitative data analysis.
James Copestake LinkedIn
Co-founder
James is Professor of International Development at the University of Bath. He is author of the Qualitative Impact Protocol and his interest in Causal Map stems from understanding the intersection between theories of change and people's mental models of change.
