We presented at EES 2024
September 2024 ยท European Evaluation Society, Rimini
Reflecting on an incredible EES Conference 2024.
First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to all attendees, co-presenters, and the EES organising committee. Your engagement, insights, and support made this conference truly exceptional.
We were honoured to contribute to this collaborative learning experience. If you weren’t at Rimini, or missed our presentations, you can catch up on them here.
Professional workshop
“Causal Mapping with Simple Tools” (23 September)
Led by Steve Powell and Fiona Remnant, this hands-on workshop equipped participants with practical skills in:
- Identifying causal data in reports and interviews
- Coding and analysing causal data
- Integrating causal mapping with other evaluation methods
- Using tools like Post-its, Excel, and our custom Causal Map app
Key takeaways: there were participants from every aspect of evaluation, and we learned a lot from them too about what role causal mapping can play in different contexts.

Paper presentation: testing Qualia live
“Automated Interviewing with Qualia“ by Steve Powell (26 September), in the “Qualitative and case based approaches” session.
Key takeaways: This one was pretty scary because for the first time we had about 40 people in a room all being interviewed by Qualia all at once. It worked great, and more or less everyone in the room gave their useful feedback.
Panel presentations
“AI as a Partner for Outcome Harvesting, Benefits and Challenges” (27 September)
“Talk to the bot: Automated interviews for Outcome Harvesting” by Kornelia Rassmann.

“Causal Mapping for OH Analysis” by Steve Powell and Heather Britt.

Key takeaways: it was great to work together with Konny and Heather to illustrate different ways we can help Outcome Harvesters with gathering and making sense of data.
